Solid wood countertop for cabinets

     Countertop is an important component for cabinets, especially in kitchen and bathroom. Countertop protects the cabinets below and provide a wide and flat space for operating. Most of the countertops are made from stone or metal, in order to have good waterproofing. And how about the wood countertop? Some cabinet makers supply the laminated board which basic material is particle board as countertop. For the same reason of waterproofing, the countertops are laminated by firm sheets in various colors and finishes.

     Are there any solid wood countertops? Sure, but you should pay more attention about it.

     1. Wood countertop should not be closed to gas stove.
     Wood is combustible and the gas stove should not be fixed into a timber countertop. In kitchen design, wood countertops are more used to be extending table or overhang bar table.

     2. Wood countertop should be painted and regularly maintained
     Unpainted solid wood timber is easily affected by the climate change and other factors. Besides, it will be cracked, damaged by worms or even get mildew. Wood should be coated by protective paint or oil. You'd better repaint it regular for better maintenance.

     3. Do not fix under-mounted sink to wood countertop
     Unlike the flame from gas stove, water is less harmful to solid wood countertop. But you should fix the top-mounted sink or basin on the solid wood timber, or the long-term high humidity will also make the timber deteriorated.
