How to plan the layout of laundry cabinet?

Laundry room is a necessary but often overlooked place. Most of the laundry cabinets are not big, meaning it's not economic to purchase it only. Usually, house builders and owners will order the laundry cabinet together with kitchen cabinets or bathroom vanities, so that the finish and color of laundry cabinet can be kept as same as other cabinets and it also saves the money and time.

The layout of laundry cabinet is highly based on the space and the washing machine style. If there is only a washing machine, the space for it will be placed under benchtop, about 600mm wide. If there are planned to be two machines – washer & dryer – we need to study how they be mounted. If they are stackable, then we can regard them as a tall unit beside the cabinets. If these machines are separated, we need to reserve more empty space for them to install.

Beside the machines, there should be a basin for some simple washing by hands and some storage space for detergent.

All in all, a practical laundry working space should be at least 1.2 meter wide. If your laundry is bigger, we can have more cabinets and accessories like below to improve its function.

1. Cabinets with shelves as linen cabinets

   To plan a linen cabinet in laundry cabinets is a good idea for you to store the linen in order. Towels, blankets, sheets and other linen can be stored right after washing.

2. A tall cabinet with hook as broom cabinet

   Some cleaning tools like broom, mop and vacuum cleaner are big and it’s better to put them inside a tall cabinet with hook. Usually this cabinet will be inside the kitchen cabinet or the laundry cabinet.

3. Rail for hanging clothes

   A rail can help you to organize the clothes after washing and drying. We suggest planning the rail about 1 meter above the benchtop, and we will not make overhead cabinet there

4. Laundry basket

   A portable laundry basket is a necessary for you to collect the clothes from rooms. If there are empty space in the laundry cabinet, we suggest planning a deep drawer for it.

In conclusion, when designing a laundry cabinet, there should be enough space for washing machines and basin, more, some cabinets as storage space and functional accessories according to the actual space in laundry room.
